Streamers and traditional studios have been duking it out for Oscar gold ever since Netflix and Amazon Prime got into the prestige film game, but this year, the boundaries are collapsing more than ever before. With theaters shuttered or sparsely attended due to the pandemic, more films landed on streaming platforms than ever before-some by design, including original streaming fare like The Power of the Dog and The Lost Daughter, but others by necessity, including big-screen tentpoles like Dune and King Richard. ![]() But this year in movies has been anything but normal. In a normal year for movies, film buffs would spend these precious pre-Oscars days darting from movie theater to movie theater, eager to cross each nominated film off their watch lists before the big night.
